(children clap hands together) How to use this song with babies...

A magnificent novel, it provoked such a strong emotional reaction in me as I so detested and was so utterly disgusted by some of the characters. Lachlan Broad of course, but strangely I found myself hating Roderick's father even more than I hated Broad. The dumb, über-fatalistic, weak, pathetic masochism/stoicism of that character and his entire mental landscape. Almost oppresive in its feeble passivity, crossed with this strange kind of superhuman toughness that is exhibited solely via capacity to endure pain/suffering/grinding misey/ punishment.

Alan's point about horror writing resonated with me a lot. Existence itself is terrifying for many people (and only made more so by the political and economic worlds and their consequences) and so artificially creating horror scenarios seems entirely beside the point.

This is even better than the British Primary Schools and it’s even better than the British Schools that are abusive I have recently discovered bad influences with them on the restraining which is stupid so we all believe the Scottish Primary Schools make totally flawless Primary Schools and how the kids do a lotta things better in their cool’s and how nice they are on things they do and how the teachers don’t punish and be more gentle with them and how storytelling these teachers are with the kids always entertaining themselves and having a blast on what they have fun on

I really loved loved loved both "His Bloody Project" and "The Dissappearance of Adele Bedeau". The postface of "The Dissappearance of Adele Bedeau" was amazing and I really believed it was a real history about Raymond Brunet. My next reads are "The accident on the A35" and "Case study" and I can't wait for more books by this amazing one of a kind author.
